Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a name held in deep reverence by the people of Ghana, stands as a timeless symbol of Sacrifice, Love, and Loyalty woven into the rich tapestry of Ghanaian history. Born on the 6th of March, 1962, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, the heart of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, his arrival coincided with the nation’s fifth-anniversary celebration of Independence. 

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong was the offspring of Lawyer Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong and Mrs. Margaret Agyepong, a skilled Stenographer Secretary. Their legacy of duty and patriotism profoundly shaped his life.

A Scholar's Journey: From Royal International School to Mfantsipim School

The educational odyssey of Mr. Agyepong commenced at the Royal International School in Kumasi, where his intellect shone brilliantly. His exceptional performance in the Common Entrance Examinations secured him a coveted place at the prestigious Mfanstipim School in Cape Coast. There, he continued to distinguish himself, culminating in Distinction in his O-Level examinations in 1979. 

His educational voyage led him to Mfantsipim, where he assumed the esteemed role of Library Prefect. In 1981, having completed his A-Levels, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong embarked on a transformative path, enrolling at the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering.

The Triumph of Resilience Amidst Tragedy

Tragedy struck during his first year at university when his father, Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, became one of the three High Court Judges abducted and mercilessly murdered during the tumultuous December 31st Revolution. Despite this profound personal loss and the crucible of adversity, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong displayed remarkable resilience throughout his college years, ultimately earning his BSc Degree in Civil Engineering in 1986. 

His ability to overcome this traumatic loss served as a testament to his mental fortitude, unwavering endurance, and a wellspring of divine inspiration. Subsequently, he pursued advanced studies, achieving an MSc Degree with Distinction in Water and Environmental Engineering from the University of Surrey in Guildford, UK.

A Distinguished Career in Engineering

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, acknowledged as a Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) and a distinguished member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), carved a niche for himself as a seasoned Consulting Engineer specializing in Environmental, Water, and Sanitation Engineering. Over three decades, he amassed extensive expertise in Project Management, spanning Concept Planning, Design, Procurement, Construction Supervision, Project Commissioning, and Asset Management.

A Renaissance Man: Sports Broadcasting and Political Activism

In addition to his engineering career, Agyepong achieved celebrity status as the distinguished anchor of the prime-time ‘Sports Highlights’ TV show on GBC-TV. He covered major international sporting events, including the Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. The values of Service, Sacrifice, and Selflessness, instilled by his father, ignited his passion for political activism. He played a pivotal role in Ghana’s transition from military autocracy to democratic constitutional governance during the Fourth Republic, notably within the New Patriotic Party (NPP)

A Legacy of Leadership

In 2001, Agyepong served as Press Secretary to the President and Presidential Spokesman, receiving the Officer of the Order of Volta (OV) award in 2008 for his outstanding service. He later assumed the role of General Secretary of the NPP and became the Executive Director of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE). Under his stewardship, the GhIE experienced a renaissance, solidifying its national and global prominence. He received the prestigious Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO) award, a testament to his distinguished service to FAEO.

A Life of Family and Inspiration

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong’s personal life beautifully intertwines with his professional journey. He is married to Dr. Lawrencia Agyepong, and together, they are blessed with three children: Kofi, Kwame, and Maame Yaa.
